Idea
The Faculty of Economics of the Neumann János University announced its national economics competition for high school students in grades 11–13 with the professional, organizational and marketing support of EcoSim. The aim of the competition is to develop the students’ economic and financial thinking through experience-based challenges, while bringing them closer to economic higher education and university life, and to attract high school graduates from the Southern Great Plain Region to the NJE GTK.
Experience-based student recruitment
The economics competition creates an opportunity for Neumann János University to connect with high school students interested in economic programs in an experiential way before they decide to continue their studies, and to arouse interest among well-qualified students. The competition not only reaches and activates the target group, but also offers a memorable professional experience and personal university connection, thus strengthening the institution’s awareness, attractiveness and later intention to apply.
Competition
In the online qualifier, the teams completed an economic-themed, escape room-style challenge, where they had to solve logical and financial tasks to advance. The best teams managed a virtual hotel in a business simulation environment in the live final held at the Kecskemét campus of John Neumann University, and then presented their strategy and the results of their decisions in front of a professional jury. The final was also supplemented with professional programs and university experiences, so the participants could get to know the institution in person.
Teams
The competition was open to high school teams of 2–3 people from all over Hungary. They were directed to the competition, and the 10 most successful teams advanced to the final. The best teams also received valuable prizes and additional institutional admission points for the NJE GTK.
